All the Cool Kids Are Having News-Related Early Morning Anxiety Attacks.
Good morning, my doves! Happy to report that, other than the fact I started my introduction to the evening muted in a delightful self-own like so many of my work video calls these days, Odd Salon SHORTS went off without (any further) hitches! It was a super fun night, and dare I say it felt the closest we’ve come to our IRL events. Thank you to Tre and Annetta, to our speakers, to our volunteers, to our members, and to everyone who attended, it means the world to us that we get to keep doing this, even while still stuck in our homes.
TO THE INTERNET!
No, I am not watching the RNC (or at least trying not to), because I’ve already watched a lifetime of personality cult propaganda while studying WWII in college and I’d rather use my emotional energy volunteering for Vote From Home 2020 or, I dunno, doing literally anything else in the world. But one thing: before you read any article praising the normalcy of any of the speeches or how Melania Trump’s speech wasn’t as bat poop crazy as ones that came before it, read POLITICO’s take on last night. Also, read Ezra Klein’s take on the whole thing: A loyalty test for the GOP, a reality test for the country.
Speaking of Melania’s speech… in the Rose Garden… of the White House… reportedly attendees were not required to take COVID tests. Exposing the core staffers of the executive branch of the United States to a deadly virus with not a mask in sight to own the libs is a cool platform to stand on.
Now I’m just rage-scrolling down Memeoradum, but the fact that there are GOP-affiliated people passing around tweetstorms breathlessly talking about the Rothchilds and the Protocols is yet another reminder that 2003 Amy sitting in her History of the Jews In Europe class would be screaming into the void if she knew what was happening in 2020.
Oh goodness, now I’m going down an RNC news hole and reading The RNC Has Made a Compelling Case for America’s Imminent Collapse and I need to walk away from my laptop STAT.
Alright, I need to get my mental health back on track before I start work today, so here’s A Brief History of the Mason Jar.
Less than 70 days until the election. What are you doing to build a more perfect union?
Xoxo Amy
