If you haven’t, you need to watch Olympic gold medalist Aly Raisman look her abuser straight in the eye and tell him “you are nothing.” She also called out the gymnastics powers that be for profiting off of her and her teammates, while ignoring abuse complaints. Then you need to read Jessica Luther’s opinion piece in BuzzFeed asking why more attention isn’t being paid to the largest sporting scandal in American history.
Barbara Kingsolver wrote a burn-it-down piece in the Guardian on harassment, institutional misogyny, and how women just aren’t going to take it any more. Choice quote: “Watching the election of a predator-in-chief seems to have popped the lid off the can. We’ve found a voice, and now is a good time to use it, in a tone that will not be mistaken for flirtation.”
And finally, an artist recreated sexist ads from the 50s, but reversed the genders, and yea, it’s pretty ridiculous to read lines like “you mean a man can open it?”
