Be a Helper: Wildfires in Napa and Sonoma
Here in the Bay Area, we wake up today to red skies, smoky air and horrible news: the out-of-control wildfires in Napa and Sonoma have killed 17 and destroyed more than 2,000 homes.Tens of thousands of acres continue to burn, and the Washington Post has a good explainer as to why they are so hard to control.
And while these fires are obviously devastating for local businesses which include industries like wine and tourism, please remember that the North Bay is home to some of the (very) few affordable residential regions in the Bay Area. Santa Rosa, Petaluma, and the surrounding towns are home to agriculture workers, multi-generation families, artists, first-time home buyers, renters, commuters into San Francisco, entrepreneurs, etc.
Consider a tax-deductible donation to the Napa Valley Community Foundation disaster relief fund or the emergency fund for the Center for Volunteer and Non-Profit Leadership in Sonoma/Marin. If you all have other places to donate or ways to help, please let me know and I will share tomorrow.
Be kind to each other, my loves.
