Go Crush On Some Trees, And Other Alternative Botanical Self-Care.
Sweethearts, I’m a bad wonk. Instead of watching the debates last night, I went to acupuncture and then got my butt kicked attempting to do handstands in a very difficult yoga class. From there I came home, put away laundry, and went to bed, without tuning in for the first of a trillion Democrat debates for the upcoming 2020 presidential clusterheck. But what I can tell you is that, in reading all of the #hottakes this morning, I’m fully convinced that Elizabeth Warren will get the job done, and some. There’s another debate tonight, which I will also not be watching, so if you have commentary you want to share with the world, send it my way?
(It should be noted that this upcoming presidential election is the most important of our lifetimes, after that last one in which everything went to heck, so lest you think this Missive is losing its political edge, worry not: I’m just not prepared to go full on Primary hype girl just yet. But oh yes, that day shall come.)
But speaking of being a hype girl, can we talk about this excellent 36 Hours with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez? UGH, SHE’S SO COOL AND AWESOME IT HURTS.
“Follow your envy; it tells you what you want. If you’re feeling sad, why? Something’s not working. If emotions don’t guide you, you’re going to make choices and decisions that end up lost.”
I love oral histories of meme-becoming moments in pop culture, so this Vulture piece on “Not great, Bob!” is a delightful read.
A bunch of billionaires and other uber-wealthy people penned a Medium piece saying “It’s Time to Tax Us More.” AND IT HAS FOOTNOTES!!!
And finally, the lovely public park atop the Transbay Transit Center in SF is reopening after being closed for cracked beams discovered mere weeks after it opened, and I am irrationally excited to get to wander around up there again :) For you botanical nerds, San Francisco Trees (yes, that is a website that exists) has a walking tour of, you guessed it, all the awesome-ass trees in the park! Get out your third grade sketch books and go crush on some flora, why don't you!
You’re awesome. Be kind to each other.
Xoxo Amy
