In 2020, May We All Channel Our Inner Pyro Tortoise
Dearests! Happy Tuesday, and happy “the sun is finally setting past five o’clock, maybe there’s hope for us yet!” It’s 44 degrees in my apartment and it took all my effort not to burrito myself in my duvet and ignore any and all commitments, but I am a grown-up and got my butt out of bed.
To the interwebs!
From The Washington Post: Facebook bans deepfakes, but new policy may not cover controversial Pelosi video. Why now, do you think? As the article mentions, “The changes come as [Facebook’s VP of Global Policy Management] prepares to testify at a congressional hearing later this week on “manipulation and deception in the digital age.””
Bond villain venture firm SoftBank is stringing start-ups along and then walking away from previously-promised deals. I was going to make some joke about a dating metaphor, but then Axios’s Dan Primack wrote this headline “Scoop: SoftBank shafts startups” and I shall not be goaded into immature humor, thank you very much.
Speaking of headlines that bring me inordinate amounts of joy, thank you Vox for this one: “What is private equity, and why is it killing everything you love?” Isn’t late-stage capitalism fun? Weeeeee!
Oooops: “Search engine for Japanese sex hotels announces security breach.”
Sweeties, how are those New Years Resolutions treating you? Well, Fast Company has some tips on the “best way to actually make a habit stick.” Elements of success include personal reflection, proper motivation, and knowing that most advice given to you is bad, so why even try? LOL jk I’m here to support your personal growth :)
And finally, this is the one article I allowed myself to read whilst cocooned in my parents’ basement over the Christmas holiday: “‘Angry’ tortoise sets house on fire on Christmas Day.”
You’re swell. Be kind to each other, and to yourself.
xoxo Amy
