It's 2022: Self-Doubt Is Out, Deliberately Defiant Self Confidence Is All We Do Now, Mmmkay?
Hello, lovelies! Happy Tuesday, may your day be filled with the finest caffeinated beverage of your choice, lots of fun music to work to, and as many opportunities stare into the middle distance as is soothing to your mental health.
LET’S DO THIS!
Didn’t mention this yesterday, because I honestly don’t know WTF to say in a country that values mass produced death tools over human lives, but let us remember that words have consequences and cowardly politicians who co-opt hate for cheap political gains should never, ever, be allowed to forget it: Racist Attack Spotlights Stefanik’s Echo of Replacement Theory (The New York Times) and No one will apologize for hyping the ‘great replacement theory’ (The Washington Post). And on that theme, We're all trying to find the guy who did this — Fox News struggled to shift coverage of Buffalo mass shooting away from the racist theory it frequently promoted (Media Matters)
Also, New York’s red flag law should have helped thwart the Buffalo mass shooting. What went wrong? (NBC News)
Have no clever way to transition away from the above, but if you, like me, have an interest in how to motivate teams from a place of kindness, you might at first think I was sharing this in celebration: Why Is Your Boss Asking About Your Feelings? Inside the Empathy Management Trend (WSJ) But after I saw a LinkedIn round up of executives sharing various forms of “So true!” around this article, I’d like to sit each of them down and ask how many of them have left people crying in the office bathroom. Because methinks they all protest too much. (TL;DR: leading with empathy isn’t just a checklist you can deploy to “seem” like you give a shit about your team members, it’s actually giving a shit about your team members. This shouldn’t be a management trend that spawns a thousand think pieces, because it’s BEING AN ACTUAL HUMAN IN THE WORKPLACE. I am le tired.)
And finally, oh how McSweeney’s remains a national treasure: Please Don’t Make Me Write A Think Piece About How Unbanning Trump From Twitter Would Actually Be A Triumph For Freedom
That’s it, that’s all! I hope you have an absolutely wonderful day - drink some water, get outside, make penance to Hypnos in hopes for sleep, be kind to yourself.
xoxo Amy
