Just Flew In On Sunday, And [Looks At Internet] Boy Are My Patience And Ability To Ignore Bad Faith Arguments Tired
Happiest of Tuesday, darling humans! I am back in the Bay Area, enjoying the needed rain that falls around our fair city. And I’m not feeling particularly verbose this morning (famous last words, I know!) so let’s jump right into that sweet content…
TO THE INTERNET!
I love Dolly Parton so much, and this piece makes me love where she’s from so much, even if I’ve never been there: What Dolly Parton wants us to know about the Smoky Mountains (National Geographic)
Grifters gonna grift: “Mr. Kushner, whose fund has not publicly disclosed a theme or focus, has little experience or track record in private equity. Before working in the White House, he ran his family’s commercial real estate empire, sometimes with disappointing results.” Before Giving Billions to Jared Kushner, Saudi Investment Fund Had Big Doubts (The New York Times)
Meanwhile, grifters gonna grift part deux: ”The Trump administration left office without providing the State Department with an accounting of the gifts former President Donald J. Trump, former Vice President Mike Pence and other White House officials received from foreign governments in 2020, the department disclosed late Friday.” Trump Officials Failed to Provide Accounting of Foreign Gifts (NYT as well) Also, um, this detail made me LOL: “Trump administration officials had held onto white tiger and cheetah furs the Saudi government had given to the White House on a 2017 trip to the kingdom, even though the Endangered Species Act made possession of them illegal. When the furs were ultimately handed over to the Interior Department, tests revealed that they were fake.” (emphasis mine, because they got fake furs)
A reminder that abortion rights are on their last legs, and that the upcoming overturning of Roe v. Wade will remove basic bodily autonomy rights for anyone with a uterus who wants control over their own destiny: The Red State–Blue State Scramble to Replace Roe (Intelligencer)
And finally, “There are about 1.8 million fewer working-age immigrants in the United States today than would be the case if pre-2020 immigration trends had continued unchanged”, so think about that the next time hear someone complain that no one wants to work anymore. Democrats are missing the bigger immigration issue (Washington Post)
You’re lovely. I hope you drink some water, get outside for a bit, and have an absolutely lovely day.
xoxo Amy
