Reading List: Belated ’Murican Holiday Edition
My poppets, I’m off today and I wasn’t going to write a Missive. But then my jerk of a body woke me up at 6 am anyways, so I’ve been up for four hours and have had coffee and am now wondering what to do with myself other than watch Stranger Things and figure out how to physically prevent myself from going out and buying more plants.
So you know what? HERE’S WHAT I’M READING THIS WEEKEND!
Connor Sheets, The Sheriff Lost Reelection. Then the Spending Spree Began. (ProPublica) - Can someone option this insane story into a movie, already?
Andrea Pitzer, One Long Night - This partisan bickering over what AOC should be allowed to call the migrant camps at the border distracts us from the fact that those facilities sure as heck resemble the various ways humans have gathered and isolated other humans at various points in history. Pitzer’s book has been repeatedly cited by recent thinkpieces, so I’m doing what I always do: bingereading a book on how awful humanity can be, in the hopes of being inspired to help improve it myself. Oh, and while you’re at it, you should probably also listen to the Behind the Bastards episode Concentration Camps Are Back, So Let's Talk About Their History.
Lisa Miller, Measles for the One Percent (The Cut) - Thank you Mum for sharing this piece on outbreaks in elite liberal schooling. I haven’t started reading it yet, but if you don’t hear from me on Monday, it’s likely because I tossed my computer out the window in a blind rage.
Alright darlings, you’re lovely. Have a great weekend, and be kind to each other.
Xoxo Amy
