Remember: Every Day, Humans Build And Run Things, And That Continues To Amaze/Terrify Me.
Good morning, my darlings. Yesterday morning, I opened up my New York Times app, allowing myself a few moments of doom-reading before I escorted Princess Orca of Floofenshire to her morning social hour (dog park). Happily, the headline announced that, even before we know what’s going on in Georgia, the Democrats have rather miraculously held on to the Senate. So that means that in addition to over performing at the state level, Democrats held on despite all signs pointing to a decimation. And please note, I forgot to add the link to one of the reasons we had the outcome we did: Women Remembered to Vote on Abortion.
And despite my lingering assumption that the Orange One will never retreat, the fact that ultra conservative pubs like the Washington Examiner have editorial boards who are calling for a sea change in the GOP and folks aren’t showing up when former guy calls, maybe this is different? I mean, of course not, but we can hope, right?
Meanwhile, over at my favorite website-turned-Fourth-Circle-of-Hell Twitter, Casey Newton continues to drop scoop after scoop after scoopity scoop, with this jaw dropping insight into what’s happening behind closed doors at the Market Street offices (h/t Friend of the Missive Kate for being the first to send it to me). Seriously, pour a cup of caffeinated beverage and sit down to read it, it’s a doozy. And frankly, I don’t know nearly enough about this sort of big business shake-up but I’m truly not a fan of what is essentially the world’s biggest town square being so thoroughly enmeshed in chaos, and this Twitter thread (I know) does a good job of describing just how badly this could end.
So, yea, if you need to read one thing today and you want it to be funny, might I suggest Introducing Mr. Musk’s Cure-All Company Elixir from McSweeney’s?
And if you want it distinctly Twitter or election drama-free, let it be this one, which I happily share as someone who also does well in winter and so so great in summer: I Actually Thrive In The Winter. Some Experts Helped Me Understand Why. (BuzzFeed) Or you could read about the wonderful work being done at Cafe Ohlone in Berkeley: This Indigenous Community Was Deemed 'Extinct.' Its Food Culture Destroys That Myth. (HuffPost)
OK, fine, one more (and look, I don’t condone bullying ever AND YET):
You’re swell. Drink some water, get outside, be kind to each other, won’t you?
xoxo Amy
