Saving the World, One Lipstick at a Time.
Happy Monday, dearests. It is rainy figurative house pets in Oakland this morning, and I’m cursing the fact that I left my rain boots at work. Sigh.
Thank you to friends of the Missive Zoe and Jessica for recommending the podcast “Forever 35” with Doree Shafrir and Kate Spencer. Self-billed as a “podcast about the things we do to take care of ourselves,” it’s an honest and charming take on the act and industry of self-care and aging. In the first episode I listened to, ‘Up in the Air,’ co-host Kate beautifully describes the sense memory of skincare, and how purchasing a small jar of expensive face cream helps her remember her Mom. Kate and Doree's banter was the perfect sound to make coffee to this morning. So if you’re like me - a mid-30 ‘professional’ lady obsessed with red lipsticks and yoga and hand cream and pretty damned reflective on what my reliance on consumerism-fueled self-care means - you should check it out.
If you’re wondering what red lipstick I’m swearing by right now, because of course you are, thank Rhianna for everything beautiful and good, which you should be doing anyways.
Speaking of beauty-industry drama and how this newsletter has just become a Racked fan zine, WTACTUALHELL is going on at hipster skincare co Deciem?!?!
That’s it, that’s all for today, my loves.
