Sorry Folks, I Only Converse in ‘Speak Now’ Song Lyrics Today.
Darlings, this is a quick one because I am on my third ‘Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)’ listen and have carefully cozied myself in the emo-influenced country songs that will be all I play on guitar this weekend while nerding it up with my colleagues in the “Swifties of Zeno” group chat.
And every time I get to revel in the joy of the communal cultural experience of a TSwift release, I am reminded of how the internalized misogyny of the early aughts prevented me from enjoying ‘Speak Now’ because it was too girly, too emotional, and not something that the cool kids listened to. Well, as I stare down the end of my 30s, I am so grateful that I’ve gotten over my unease with unbridled enthusiasm and joy and happiness and sadness and alllll the big feels, and am absolutely at home dancing around to expertly re-recorded mandolins and fiddles and slide guitars.
I’ve told—and re-shared—these stories over an over, of my desire to make myself smaller and more palatable and less of a burden, to minimize the big emotions that rattle around my brain - hell, when Taylor re-released ‘Red’, I wrote ‘In Praise Of The “Too Much” Woman’ on this here Missive to process how I gate kept myself from her music because of wanting to be cool and one of the dudes.) ANYWAY, just read the above and you’ll figure out my mood this morning.
TSWIFT INTERNET!
Oh, you don’t know what the fuss is about? WaPo has a helpful explainer: ‘What to know about ‘Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)’ as it consumes the internet’
The PM of my home country is a Swiftie, and you know what, that’s awesome: ‘Justin Trudeau Very Politely Asked Taylor Swift to Consider Booking Some Canadian Eras Tour Dates’ (Billboard)
And no wonder he wants her to schedule some dates north of the 49th, Fortune is reporting that “the Eras Tour could generate $4.6 billion in consumer spending in the US alone”. TAYLOR. ‘Taylor Swift isn’t just an entertainment giant. Her sold-out tour is supercharging local economies too.’
Meanwhile, ‘John Mayer Asks Everyone to "Please Be Kind" Amid 'Speak Now (Taylor's Version)' Dropping’ (Cosmopolitan)
Yea, that’s it folks, I need to get “ready” for “work” whilst literally waltzing to Dear John in my kitchen. Drink some water, get outside, be kind to each other, won’t you?
