Superb Owls, and Other Local Heroes.
Good morning everyone! You know what time it is...
Welcome to a special Bay Area edition of the Morning Missive. Sitting here, dreaming of the time I’ll be able to buy a fixer-upper for $370,000 over asking price, IN CASH. Meanwhile, Fusion reports that homeless individuals living in an encampment under the freeway in the SOMA district say they were asked to move to that location by city workers and law enforcement, in anticipation of the “Super Bowl City” being assembled near San Francisco’s ferry building.
One good thing to come out of this sports ball fervor: the Super Bowl 50 shrine set up near Alamo Square was crowdsource-improved upon, and now reads Superb Owl, as it should.
In other news, it’s been almost twenty years since California legalized medical marijuana. This year, “at least a half-dozen state bills this year will seek to fund, clarify, alter, or add to the [existing] rules,” so the marijuana industry is organizing, hiring lobbyists and gearing up for regulatory battles. The East Bay Express takes a look at how this hodgepodge of bills is sending both established and upstart marijuana players to Sacramento, quickly. Stay tuned...
Tomorrow, BuzzFeed is hosting a “Call it Frisco” Day, which I totally support. Just don’t call it San Fran, people. For the love of God, don’t call it San Fran.
And finally, SFGate is always there when you need them: Hairy hipster invasion in San Francisco - beards, barbershops then and now.
Hugs! Have a good one...
