To The Solo Bird Aggressively Warbling Away Before The Sun Rises, I SALUTE YOU.
My doves! It’s been a spell since I’ve written to you, as the first week of May has proven to be especially busy in the mornings, so I’ve been unable to sit down and peruse the internet with our collection enjoyment and/or flabbergastment in mind. But here I am, coffee-in-Harry+Meghan Mug-in-hand, ready to send along some of the things that have caught my Instapaper over the last few days.
TO THE INTERNET!
From now on, whenever I have a bad day, I’m going to remind myself that at least I didn’t accidentally adjust a global map by moving a border marker from the path of my tractor: Belgian farmer accidentally moves French border (BBC)
Today, Facebook is announcing its decision as to whether they will let the Former Guy back on their platform, and I’m hoping upon hope that they do not. Elizabeth Dwoskin and Cat Zakrzewski published an excellent Washington Post piece on Facebook’s history with the former president: Facebook and Trump are at a turning point in their long, tortured relationship.
Wow: Casey Newton’s insight into the Basecamp all-hands “discussion that left several employees (he) spoke with in tears” shows a deep sourcing that boggles the mind and just how freaking excellent he is at his job. (Platformer/The Verge)
Caitlyn Jenner is running as a GOP candidate for governor of California if Gavin Newsom is recalled, and kicked off her campaign saying “she opposes transgender girls competing in girls’ sports at school,” saying it was unfair. Meanwhile, as Mum of the Missive alerted me to this morning, “she competed in a women’s golf tournament in which she was driving from the women’s tees (which are closer to the flag).” I’m not liking this “hypocritically pandering to the rabid GOP base by using children’s identities as political pawns” platform one bit. Also, the California recall is dumb. (NBC, MSN, Vox)
Awesome: jewelry maker Pandora “will stop using mined diamonds as part of a broader strategy to drop raw materials associated with unethical production methods.” (Business of Fashion)
And finally, take a moment and sit back to watch Mariah Carey get her second COVID vaccine, in which she asks “Would I EVER walk into this lighting for no reason???”
I missed you all! Get outside if you can, and be kind to yourself.
Xoxo Amy
