Wear A Mask, Own A Lib.

Hi, friends! It’s the start of another week and the world is still insane, so let’s see what we can read before our schedules self-immolate and we’re forever caught by our inbox hydra.

To the internet!

  • Dear readers, if you are friends with and/or related to anyone in the MAGA crowd, can you do me a favor and tell them how personally owned I am as a lib, how absolutely rocked my world is, how I cry in the corner of my apartment all day, how pathetic and scared I feel about the election now that POTUS has worn a mask in public? Because if wearing masks to piss off progressives becomes the conservative troll du jour, we are all better for it. So consider me personally devastated by the Walter Reed photo opp, and WEAR A MASK, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.

  • And as an example of the absolute opposite end of the leadership and goodness spectrum, can we talk about just how amazing Tammy Duckworth is? Tucker Carlson Doesn’t Know What Patriotism Is. The subhead is “Neither does President Trump.”

  • Also from the NYT, if you’re not following the government-sponsored censorship of independent media around the world, it should chill you: While America Looks Away, Autocrats Crack Down on Digital News Sites. The attacks that Maria Ressa, a fellow Princeton alum, has endured from Philippines president Rodrigo Duterte are particularly scary, having been convicted under a new “cyber libel” law for reporting on the corruption of his administration.

  • Thank you Friend of the Missive Greg K. for telling the story of a reported—but very much unconfirmed—“former pro wrestler, madam and trained nurse” known as “The Duchess” who ran a crime school in San Francisco.

  • And finally, fun fact: one of my great, great aunts never married because all the young men in her town died in WWI or of the Spanish Flu. And now, as a 36-year-old divorcée I’ll be carrying on a family tradition! ‘Did 500 Epidemiologists Just Low-Key Inform Me That I’m Never Going to Have a Baby?’

Get to it, lovelies. Be kind to each other, and wear your damned masks!

xoxo Amy
