Yes, I Shall Continue To Narrate My Life Via Subject Line, Thank You Very Much, So Please Appreciate How Yesterday I Saved A Near-Death Jade Plant I’d Forgotten On A Window Sill.
Quick one today, let’s get at it!
Stop whatever you are doing and read up on how Zack Snyder digitally introduced the inimitable Tis Notaro into Army of the Dead after the movie had finished filming, How to Un-Cast an Actor: When an Army of the Dead star got called out, Zack Snyder called on Tig Notaro to save a role. (Vulture)
This is a headline from May 7, 2021: The virus is an airborne threat, the C.D.C. acknowledges. (NYT) At first I thought, “No shit, Sherlock,” until I read down to where the distinction is made: before, they said spread was due to “close contact”. Now, we know that the damned virus travels through and lingers in the air. And IMHO (and emphasis on humble, as I am not infectious disease expert by any stretch of the imagination) this puts more onus on those in charge of structures and gatherings (schools, employers, government bodies, etc.) to keep people safe, as opposed to all of us thinking it’s just up to us to wash our hands and coat everything in hand sanitizer. Which, frankly, isn’t comforting to me (and for further context, read Zeynep Tufekci’s companion opinion piece on just how significant this shift in position is.)
And after reading that, I am once again grateful for the modern science that got a vaccine in my arm: Got the vaccine? Experts say you can relax about your Covid-19 risk now. Really. (Vox) But I am still going to wear a mask most of the time, because they are a cute accessory AND I like that I haven’t had a cold in over a year.
Good: Dozens of state AGs asked Facebook to cancel plans for kids Instagram (Protocol)
Also good: Federal judge denies NRA attempt to declare bankruptcy in win for New York state attorney general (The Washington Post)
That’s it, that’s all. Open your windows, enjoy your coffee, be kind to yourself.
